Marrying contemporary marina apartments with unique country houses
Our newly completed conversion development on the outskirts of Suffolk in the quaint village of Thorndon is a very unique project. Dating back to 1908, the old school buildings had been vacant for many years and have undergone a very extensive and sympathetic conversion, retaining original features wherever possible, and breathing new life into this picturesque neighbourhood.
The Clock Tower development itself is an architectural minefield and considered mix of twenty-one converted and individually designed properties comprising of sixteen 2 & 3 bedroom townhouses, four contemporary 1 & 2 bedroom apartments and one charming 3 bedroom chapel conversion.
At the time of acquiring The Clock Tower in Thorndon, we had already started development work on the waterfront scheme in Ipswich. Apart from the structural skeleton of the building, The Winerack was in effect a new-build blank-canvas so we were excited to work on a very different project in terms of location and the intricacies of a conversion.
Choosing to marry our signature interior design and preferred specification of both developments was important to us so that we would have continuity of design-led style and quality. Blending the interior and finish of contemporary marina apartments with unique country houses was achieved by looking at the environment of both schemes and introducing colour palettes, finishes and characters to compliment the individual settings. The strong blues and crisp whites of The Winerack branding and interior offer a seamless integration with the backdrop of water, reflections and big skies. For The Clock Tower, soft greens and fresh whites fused beautifully with the surrounding countryside, established hedgerows and light-filled houses. On the inside, both developments offer uncompromising attention to detail, exceptional contemporary kitchens, bathrooms, ironmongery, joinery and understated luxury.
